ABSTRACT	India’s rich historical legacy—from forts and palaces to havelis—faces mounting challenges in preservation. The havelis of Jaisalmer exemplify these issues: opulent 19th-century merchant mansions such as Patwon Ki Haveli, Salim Singh Ki Haveli, and Nathmal Ki Haveli showcase extraordinary Rajput–Mughal artistry, but are increasingly threatened by environmental decay, structural neglect, and pressures of tourism and modernization The environmental vulnerabilities of yellow sandstone, exacerbated by harsh desert conditions—sporadic heavy rainfall, wind erosion, and poor drainage—accelerate deterioration
